Therapy Services
Some specific traumas that I have helped clients process in the past are:
Childhood abuse or neglect (including emotional abuse, gaslighting and frequent shaming)
Witnessing or experiencing violence and/or sexual violence in the home or community
Having been raised by caregivers with severe mental health concerns or substance abuse concerns
Traumatic bereavement (loss and grief)
Maybe you’re feeling shame and fear disclosing parts of your past and try to shut everything out by keeping busy, distracting yourself, caring for others or engaging in self-harm. Maybe you have beliefs that you are a bad person, undeserving or unloveable. Maybe you have never taken time to process your own past to heal.
I bring warmth, compassion, curiosity and transparency to sessions, and ensure that clients feel heard, seen and accepted. Without judgement or shaming, I help clients begin to disrupt the unhelpful thoughts and behavioral patterns that may have originally developed as survival strategies. Though trauma therapy sessions allow for you to process heavy themes like distress, grief and sorrow, there are also moments for lightness, humor, creativity and playfulness.
I would not be a therapist if I didn’t genuinely love working with people and learning their stories, thoughts, urges, beliefs, emotional experiences and all parts of them. I value social-justice, equity and inclusivity, and hope you feel welcome and affirmed in your identities.
What to Expect from Therapy Together
I view therapy as a partnership, and I develop an individualized treatment plan for each of my clients based on their needs and therapeutic goals. Though we know that therapy treatment is not always linear, I consistently track clients’ symptoms to ensure that our treatment plan is effective in reducing client symptoms.
My therapeutic style draws from attachment theory, mindfulness-based, strengths-based, person-centered and creative therapies like sandtray therapy. I take a holistic approach to therapy, viewing individuals as multi-faceted. I use evidence-based therapy modalities such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Integrative Treatment for Complex Trauma (ITCT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Play Therapy, such as Sandtray Therapy.
Through interweaving portions of various evidence-based modalities, I help clients to gain an understanding of trauma and how it has impacted them, address underlying attachment concerns, disrupt maladaptive coping behaviors and unhelpful thought patterns and ultimately, alleviate trauma symptoms through gently guiding clients to confront their past traumas.
